While walking the dog a couple of weeks ago and about three blocks from home, I noticed a book laying in the grass between the side walk and the  street.  It was a paper back  titled "How the Irish Saved civilization" and when I openned it there was hand written note inside the cover  to Richard, dated 1225/04 wishing him a Merry christmas from Aunt Vickie.  Now I have always believed in devine inspiration so I felt obligated to read this book that the gods had placed there for me to discover.

If you have a keen interest of history and believe in "what comes around goes around"  you should feel compelled to read this book.  It demonstrates how the Irish captured history, devoured the written word and became prolific in rewriting their historical documents and spreading the word back to Europe after the barbarians destroyed everything including the many books and documents  from the Greeks and the Romans  when the Roman Empire crumbled.

Much of the writing is in a prose form and there are many parables and poems that help tell the story of how the Irish saved civilization.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!  Now I want to read the "Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire", the "Decline of the British Empire" and the "Fall of the Soviet Union"  Share your thoughts on these works if you have read them.

Wow - that's kind of cool.  I haven't read any of those books, but like you, if I had found it I would also feel compelled to read it.  In fact, I feel compelled to read it because *you* found it. :-)
